What Is Lent?

Lent is a 40-day season of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter. For centuries, Christians have used this time to refocus on God by fasting, praying, and letting go of distractions. It’s modeled after Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, where He fasted and relied completely on God.

Why Participate in Lent?

Lent isn’t about empty tradition—it’s an invitation to grow. When we fast, whether from meals, social media, or other distractions, we create space for God to move in our lives. Fasting deepens our hunger for God, strengthens our prayers, and helps us break free from things that take our focus away from Him.

How Can You Practice Lent?

  • Fast from meals – When you feel hunger, use it as a reminder to seek God and depend on Him.

  • Give up a distraction – Set aside social media, screens, or another habit to create more space for prayer.

  • Add something in – Spend extra time in Scripture, prayer, or serving others.

The Reward of Lent

Lent isn’t about what you lose—it’s about what you gain. By setting aside the temporary, we make room for growing closer to God. As we empty ourselves of distractions, we experience more of God’s presence, a renewed heart, and a deeper joy as we look to the joy of celebrating Resurrection Sunday as Easter arrives.
